Terms of Use

These are the rules for using Novellow, written to be read. They matter, so please take a few minutes with them.

1. Who can use Novellow

By creating an account or using Novellow, you agree to these Terms and to the Privacy Policy. You must be at least 13 years old. If you're under 18, please make sure a parent or guardian is happy for you to use Novellow and has read these Terms with you.

2. Your account

• Give a real email address you can reach, so you can confirm your account and reset your password.
• Keep your password to yourself. You're responsible for what happens under your account; if you think someone else has got in, change your password straight away and let Novellow know.
• One person per account, please, and no accounts made automatically.

3. What you add is yours

Your notes, reviews, quotes, words, pictures and posts belong to you. You give Novellow only the permission it needs to store them, show them to you, and show them to the people you choose to share them with (for example your friends or a book club), for as long as they're in your account. You can download everything, or delete it, at any time.

You're responsible for what you add. Only upload pictures and writing you have the right to use, and don't add anything illegal.

4. Being a good neighbour

Community is for friends who love books. When you share, post or chat, please don't:

• harass, bully, threaten or hate on anyone, or encourage anyone to harm themselves or others;
• share sexual content involving minors, or sexual or violent content with anyone who hasn't agreed to see it;
• share other people's private information, or pretend to be someone else;
• send spam, scams, advertising or harmful links or files;
• try to get into anyone else's account, break Novellow's security, or overload it;
• spoil a buddy read on purpose.

You can unfriend anyone or leave any club at any time. To report something, write to novellow.contact@gmail.com. Novellow may remove content, or suspend or close an account, that breaks these rules.

5. Books, quotes and copyright

Books belong to their authors and publishers. Keeping short quotes and notes for your own reading, reviews and discussion is what Novellow is for; please don't use it to copy out or share whole chapters or books. Cover pictures and book details from Open Library are shown under its terms.

If you believe something on Novellow infringes your copyright, write to novellow.contact@gmail.com with the work, where it appears, your contact details, and a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorized and that your notice is accurate. It will be looked at promptly and removed if it infringes.

6. Novellow's own work

The Novellow name, logo, illustrations, rooms, sounds and design belong to Novellow or its licensors. You're welcome to use them within Novellow and to share screenshots of your own library, but not to copy them into other products.

7. The service

Novellow is free, and is made with care, but it may change, pause for maintenance, or lose features over time. If Novellow were ever to close, you'd be told ahead of time and given the chance to download your library. Keeping your own backup (Settings → Download my library) is always a good idea.

8. Leaving, or being asked to leave

You can delete your account at any time in Settings. Novellow may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms or puts others at risk; where it's safe to, you'll be told why and given the chance to download your data.

9. The legal fine print

Novellow is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including that it will always be available, error-free, or that information will never be lost. To the fullest extent the law allows, Novellow and its operator won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, arising from your use of Novellow, and its total liability for any claim is limited to fifty US dollars (US$50). Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you; nothing here takes away rights the law gives you that can't be waived.

You agree to cover Novellow's reasonable costs if a claim is brought against it because of content you added or your breaking these Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state where Novellow's operator lives, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If part of these Terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.

10. Changes, and getting in touch

If these Terms change, the date at the top will change, and anything important will be announced in the app before it takes effect. Carrying on using Novellow after that means you accept the new Terms; if you don't, you can delete your account. Questions: novellow.contact@gmail.com.
